David Alaba has made up his mind about his future at Real Madrid and it’s not changing, regardless of what unfolds at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
With several Madrid players facing uncertain futures and Xabi Alonso set to make key decisions after the tournament, Alaba has reportedly informed the club of his intention to remain with the team next season. His current contract runs through 2026, and despite rumors of a possible early exit or a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, Alaba appears committed to honoring the deal.
This decision brings clarity to a situation that once suggested he might be on his way out. The Austrian defender is determined to stay and fight for his place, even if the competition is stiff.
Alaba’s 2024–25 campaign was derailed by a long-term injury, and since returning in early 2025, he’s struggled to regain top form. With the club adding young talent like Dean Huijsen and boasting experienced defenders like Rüdiger, Militao, and Asencio, breaking into the starting eleven won’t be easy.
That said, Xabi Alonso may explore different roles for Alaba — potentially using him in a pivot or full-back role. Though those aren’t his primary positions anymore, he has the experience to adapt if needed. One previous attempt under Ancelotti to play him out wide against Arsenal didn’t go well, so Alonso will have to weigh his options carefully.
For now, what’s certain is this: David Alaba isn’t leaving Madrid this summer. He’s staying put — ready to contribute however he can.
