Arsenal Set to Submit Second Bid for Viktor Gyokeres After Opening Offer Rejected
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a second bid for Viktor Gyokeres after Sporting CP rejected their initial offer for the prolific striker. According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the reigning Liga Portugal champions turned down an opening proposal worth €55 million plus add-ons for the Sweden international.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been actively pursuing a new centre-forward this summer, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško previously seen as their top target. However, reports now suggest that Arsenal have withdrawn their interest in the Slovenian striker and shifted their focus to Gyokeres.
DiMarzio of sky sport also say “Arsenal will sign Viktor Gyökeres because he wants to join Arsenal. Other clubs have tried to enter the race, but he will go to Arsenal. He was their first target from the start & now they have to find an agreement with Sporting.”
The 27-year-old has been in sensational form since his arrival at Sporting CP from Coventry City in 2023. Gyokeres has racked up an outstanding record of 97 goals and 28 assists in just 102 appearances for the Leões, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific attackers.
Despite Arsenal’s strong interest, Sporting CP are holding firm on their valuation of the player, which significantly exceeds the Gunners’ opening bid. The Portuguese champions are reportedly determined to play hardball, especially with Gyokeres also attracting interest from Manchester United.
Further complicating the situation, the Swedish striker has allegedly informed Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas of his desire to leave the club this summer, insisting he will not feature for them next season. However, with several top European clubs circling, Sporting are under no pressure to sell unless their valuation is met.
Arsenal are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days as Arteta looks to add a proven goalscorer to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
