Manchester City are still pushing to sign Flamengo right-back Wesley as they look to strengthen their defensive options following Kyle Walker’s loan move to AC Milan.
Manchester City have completed three signings this summer, which include one defender, one midfielder, and one forward respectively.
City had initially been monitoring Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong, but with the Dutch international now officially signed by Liverpool, Pep Guardiola’s side have turned their full attention to alternative targets — with Wesley at the top of the list.
Reports from Brazil confirm that City remain firmly interested in the 19-year-old, widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in South America. Flamengo sporting director José Boto has confirmed the Brazilian club will consider selling Wesley but only if an offer exceeds €30 million (£25.6 million).
The teenager has impressed with his speed, strength, and attacking contributions for Flamengo, making 30 senior appearances to date. His performances have drawn attention from several top European clubs, but City’s need for a right-back has intensified following Walker’s temporary departure to Serie A.
With Frimpong now off the market and Walker at AC Milan, Wesley presents a long-term solution for Guardiola, who is known for developing young talents into elite-level players.
Several club has also have insterest in him such as Brighton as per Telegraph, Chelsea and other club that are not reported yet.
City are expected to make their next move in the coming weeks, with talks ongoing behind the scenes. Flamengo are under no pressure to sell but are open to negotiations if their valuation is met.
Wesley’s arrival would signal the club’s intent to rejuvenate the defensive line as they prepare for the 2025/26 campaign and defend their domestic and European titles.
