Barcelona are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan deal, according to journalists Shaun Connolly and Albert Fernandez (via Barça Universal).
The Catalan giants are said to prefer a loan arrangement without any obligation to buy, with the deal including a loan fee and Barcelona covering a significant portion of Rashford’s salary. The English international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, is reportedly keen on making the move to Spain and is even willing to compromise on his wages to facilitate the transfer.
Both new Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are understood to be admirers of Rashford, viewing him as a versatile attacker capable of playing across the frontline. The club sees this as a low-risk opportunity to test Rashford in LaLiga before considering a permanent transfer.
Rashford, 26, fell out of favour at Manchester United under new manager Ruben Amorim, who left him on the bench for several matches last season. His departure from Old Trafford appears increasingly likely, with United reportedly open to letting him leave.
Adding to the potential of the deal is Rashford’s partnership with super-agent Pini Zahavi, known to share a strong relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, which could help smooth negotiations.
However, Barcelona’s interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams remains active, raising questions over how Rashford’s arrival might impact the club’s wider transfer plans. Despite financial restrictions, the Catalan side are keen to reinforce their attack ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as Barcelona weigh up their next steps regarding both Rashford and Williams.
