Arsenal’s summer transfer window is gathering serious momentum under new sporting director Andrea Berta, with a flurry of potential signings lining up and even bigger names in the pipeline.
The Gunners have already been linked with up to six new arrivals, including Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, and Cristhian Mosquera. With several medicals expected in the coming days, Mikel Arteta may soon have a refreshed squad ready for the pre-season tour. But the excitement doesn’t end there.
Rodrygo on Arsenal’s Radar
According to journalist Sami Mokbel on the Latte Firm podcast, Arsenal remain “very interested” in signing Brazilian winger Rodrygo from Real Madrid — a deal that could define the window if it materializes.
Rodrygo, 24, is enduring a difficult spell under new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso. During the Club World Cup, Alonso barely utilized the Brazilian, sparking speculation about his long-term future at the Bernabéu.
Speaking on Arsenal’s pursuit, Mokbel revealed:
“They’ve spoken to the relevant parties connected to the player to see if he’d be up for it. I think they’ve got positive feedback that he’d give it serious consideration.”
The direct communication, reportedly led by Andrea Berta, has offered hope that a move could be possible — if the financial logistics can be navigated.
The Financial Challenge
The biggest hurdle in the Rodrygo deal is not talent, but cost. Mokbel explained:
“What I am hearing is the finances attached to that deal — not necessarily just the fee, you’re looking in excess of £70m, probably closer to £80m — he would be commanding a big, big wage.”
Arsenal can afford a marquee signing but may need to be strategic. After already committing to several big-money deals, the club will likely need to offload players to stay within financial fair play parameters.
What Comes Next?
Rodrygo’s blend of flair, Champions League pedigree, and ability to play across the front three fits Arteta’s long-term vision. With positive feedback from the player’s camp and Arsenal actively exploring the structure of a deal, this is one to watch.
But for now, it appears any move is contingent on sales — making the futures of players like Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, and Eddie Nketiah even more important in the weeks to come.
