Manchester United’s summer transfer window has been nothing short of eventful, with several high-profile arrivals already making their mark at Old Trafford. The club has invested over £200 million in new talent, and while the season is still in its early stages, the returns look promising.
Matheus Cunha has lit up games with his flair and creativity, Bryan Mbeumo has shown glimpses of his sharpness on the right flank, and Benjamin Šeško, despite limited minutes, has hinted at the qualities that made him so highly sought after.
But away from the big-money deals, one of United’s more low-key signings has also caught the eye. Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon, who joined from Cerro Porteño, has quickly become a name to watch.
The 18-year-old impressed new manager Rúben Amorim during the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, registering an assist and showcasing the kind of powerful dribbling that makes him such an exciting prospect. Beyond his talent, Leon has also earned the respect of his new teammates.
Speaking to club media, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was quick to heap praise on the young winger.
“I like Diego. He’s another top player, really powerful, really strong and although he doesn’t speak much English, he’s a funny guy as well. He’s definitely a good addition to the team.”
What United Teammates Think of Diego Leon
Mainoo isn’t the only one impressed by Leon. Several senior figures at Old Trafford have also shared their first impressions of the teenager:
Patrick Dorgu: “He brings a lot of power and energy to the team. He’s very young, so it takes time to adapt, but he’s doing really well.” Tom Heaton: “He’s been brilliant.
The lads have looked after him and he’s quietly gone about his business. On the pitch, he’s been excellent and off it, he’s settled well. He has the potential to keep getting better.”
Matthijs de Ligt: “You can see he’s really keen to show his personality on the pitch. Learning the tactics and adapting to the language is tough, but he’s improving every day.”
Ayden Heaven: “He’s great. Obviously, there’s a language barrier but he’s a good kid and we help him. You saw in pre-season he picked up an assist. He’s strong for his age and looks exciting.”
A Bright Future Ahead
Leon might not have arrived with the same fanfare as Cunha, Mbeumo, or Šeško, but he has already carved out a place for himself in United’s squad. With his combination of strength, energy, and flair, the Paraguayan has the raw tools to grow into a major player for the Red Devils in the coming years.
