Mbeumo Drops Unexpected Verdict on Amorim’s Formation — Not What United Fans Wanted to Hear

Manchester United’s season has begun in disappointing fashion, and pressure is quickly mounting on new manager Ruben Amorim. With just two wins from their opening fixtures, the Red Devils currently sit 14th in the Premier League table following a 3-1 defeat to Brentford, a result that has triggered fierce debate around the club’s tactical setup and mentality.

Fans and pundits have not held back in their criticism. Questions have been raised over defensive discipline, a lack of creativity in midfield, and — most notably — Amorim’s commitment to his 3-4-3 formation, a system he used to great success at Sporting CP.

However, while many are calling for change, one of United’s newest arrivals has stepped forward in defence of his manager.

Mbeumo: “It’s Not the System — We Need to Improve”

Bryan Mbeumo, who made a high-profile switch from Brentford to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £71 million, has publicly backed Amorim’s tactical structure, insisting that the solution lies not in formation changes but in player execution.

Speaking after the Brentford defeat, Mbeumo said:

“I’ve already played in this system before. It’s our responsibility to be better. I do NOT think it’s the system — it’s us who need to improve.”

The Cameroonian international doubled down when pressed further, highlighting the standards expected at a club like United:

“At a club of this size, every player has responsibilities. Everyone must understand their role. As a team, we need to perform better.”

Amorim Stands Firm — But How Long Will United Be Patient?

Despite the growing scrutiny, Ruben Amorim has remained committed to his 3-4-3 approach, insisting that consistency — not system changes — will deliver results in the long run. The Portuguese coach believes his structure suits United’s personnel, but with performances faltering and confidence slipping, the pressure to adapt will only intensify if results don’t improve soon.

For now, Mbeumo’s public show of support offers some much-needed backing for his manager — but United fans will demand more than words.
