Rio Ferdinand Highlights Arsenal’s ‘Ridiculous’ Underrated Star After North London Derby

After Arsenal’s commanding 4–1 win over Tottenham in the North London Derby, Rio Ferdinand walked away with one clear takeaway — and it wasn’t just about Eberechi Eze.

While Eze deservedly dominated the headlines with a stunning hat-trick, Ferdinand was more interested in spotlighting another Arsenal player he believes does not get anything close to the credit he deserves: Leandro Trossard.

Ferdinand: Trossard Doesn’t Get Enough Love From Arsenal Fans

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the former Manchester United defender was full of praise for Trossard, who delivered a brilliant two-goal performance against Spurs.

“You’ve got Trossard, who has been ridiculous,” Ferdinand said.

“He doesn’t get the love he deserves from the Arsenal fans, by the way. Since he signed, only Saka has more goal contributions.”

Trossard opened the scoring after a perfectly lofted pass from Mikel Merino, setting the tone for a derby Arsenal dominated from the first whistle to the last. Despite Tottenham sitting deep and offering very little going forward, Arsenal found solutions — and Trossard was at the centre of them.

The Importance of Trossard’s Goals

Ferdinand went further, explaining that Trossard’s value isn’t just in scoring — it’s when he scores.

“The important goals he scores, whether it’s an equaliser or a late winner… his input has been a joke. He deserves massive props.”

That point has been echoed by others, including Clinton Morrison, who recently described Trossard as “undervalued” at the club.

And when you dig into the context, it’s clear why.

Arteta Never Considered Selling Him — “Forbidden”

Rewind a few months and the picture looked different. Many Arsenal fans weren’t fully convinced when Trossard signed a new contract in the summer, raising questions about whether he should remain part of the squad.

But Mikel Arteta was firm — Trossard was going nowhere.

“For me, it was forbidden for him to leave. No chance,” Arteta said after the derby win.

“I know the player he is. With the quality around him, he’s a difference-maker for us.”

Fast forward to today, and the Belgian is undroppable.

Ten goal contributions already this season, big-game impact, and consistency when Arsenal need him most — the turnaround has been striking.

Is Trossard Arsenal’s Most Underrated Player?

It’s becoming harder to argue against it.

Trossard might not always dominate the spotlight like Saka, Eze, or Ødegaard, but his end product speaks louder than any hype. Ferdinand simply said what many Arsenal fans have been thinking for weeks:

Trossard is no longer a squad option — he’s a decisive weapon in Arteta’s system.

And after another derby masterclass, the recognition is finally catching up.
