Sophie Cunningham has opened up about a personal rule she follows when it comes to relationships, and it all comes down to height.
Speaking on an episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, the Indiana Fever guard explained that she prefers to date men who are taller than she is. According to Cunningham, it’s simply a matter of comfort and how she wants to feel in a relationship.
Cunningham, who stands at 6-foot-1, joked that dating someone shorter would make her feel like she’s the “guy” in the relationship — something she says wouldn’t work for her.
While the 29-year-old admitted that many couples successfully navigate height differences, she said her personal preference has always been to be with someone taller.

“I’m already tall, so I’d rather have a partner who makes me feel a little smaller,” she explained during the discussion.
Off the court, Cunningham has built a strong following among Fever fans. During the past season, she became known for her intensity and willingness to back up her teammates, including franchise star Caitlin Clark.
Although her numbers were modest — 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game — her physical style of play and leadership made her a valuable presence for the team.
Cunningham’s preference is not unique among WNBA players. Angel Reese has also previously mentioned that she tends to prefer partners who are taller than she is.
