Arsenal set to complete a January move to sign Euro 2024 winner

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move to sign Barcelona-linked Athletic Club forward Nico Williams in January. The Gunners are in need of cover in the wide areas following injuries to Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling in recent weeks.

Spain international Williams was pivotal over the summer as La Roja won Euro 2024, and he scored in the 2-1 final win over England. The youngster was close to completing a switch to Barcelona but opted to remain with his boyhood club, taking the No. 10 jersey. The Blaugrana remain interested in the 22-year-old, who they consider to be the ideal left winger to thrive in their system and are prepared to move for him in the summer.

Daily Mail has said that Arsenal are looking to beat Barca to the fleet-footed forward and could sign him in January. Mikel Arteta’s side are, however, worried about whether the Spaniard is looking to leave his current club in the middle of the season.

Williams has a reported release clause worth around £50 million in his contract with Athletic and is contracted until 2027. The forward is said to favour a move to Barcelona and is eyeing the switch this summer.

Arsenal might be able to tempt Nico Williams with the allure of English football, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United also interested. The youngster has two goals and five assists in 23 appearances across La Liga and the UEFA Europa League this season.

Nico Williams would be a quality addition to the Arsenal squad, particularly due to his versatility and ability to play on either flank. His presence will give Arteta the opportunity to rest Saka more often.
