Alex Ferguson Picks Out One Standout Manchester United Player This Season

Sir Alex Ferguson has given a glowing endorsement of Manchester United’s new goalkeeper Senne Lammens, describing the Belgian as the club’s most impressive performer so far this season.

After months of inconsistency from André Onana, United intensified their search for a reliable goalkeeper during the summer transfer window. That search culminated in an £18 million deal for Lammens from Royal Antwerp — a move that many considered a gamble at the time. Yet the 22-year-old has quickly shown why the club were eager to secure his signature.

Lammens has already made a strong impression in his early appearances, displaying calm distribution, sharp reactions, and an authority that belies his age. His rapid adaptation has now earned praise from the most respected figure in the club’s history.

Speaking to Receday RTV, Ferguson expressed optimism about United’s overall direction but reserved special mention for the young shot-stopper.

“The signs are positive. The manager is starting to see good things,” he said.

“The goalkeeper, especially, has really stood out. He’s only had a handful of games, but he already looks very assured.”

Ferguson also pointed to the impact of the club’s other summer additions, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who arrived from Brentford and Wolves. According to the former manager, both have contributed energy and variety to United’s attack.

“Mbeumo and Cunha have added something different,” he added. “I’d love to see the manager enjoy some success because at Manchester United, success is always the standard. And right now, the team is beginning to show progress.”

He went on to say that a club of United’s stature should consistently string together victories, noting that the squad has been working through a long period of rebuilding.

“United should always be capable of winning back-to-back games,” Ferguson said. “They’ve gone through a phase where patience was needed, but now you can see the improvement starting to come through.”

Sir Alex Ferguson on Ruben Amorim:

“I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at Manchester United you need to have success.”

The Red Devils headed into the international break following a competitive 2–2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, a match that highlighted both their growing confidence and areas still in need of refinement.

For Lammens, however, the recognition from Ferguson marks a significant early milestone. If his current trajectory continues, the Belgian may quickly establish himself as one of United’s most important signings in recent years.
