Arsenal have now made a late decision to keep their €200k-per-week star for one more season.

One player who has been under intense scrutiny from fans this summer is Gabriel Martinelli. Arsenal have opted to keep hold of the Brazilian forward for at least another season, giving him the chance to rediscover the form that once made him a key figure under Mikel Arteta.

Since his breakout campaign in 2022/23, Martinelli’s performances have noticeably dipped, and with Arsenal’s attacking depth significantly improved this summer, the 24-year-old faces a crucial campaign. While increased competition could mean more time on the bench, neither the club nor the player is pushing for an exit.

Saudi Pro League Interest Emerges

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs, speaking on the Highbury Squad podcast, revealed that Martinelli has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia. However, he was quick to play down the chances of a move materialising.

“The Saudi market for Saudi Pro League clubs closes on the 7th of September, so there is a possibility,” Jacobs explained. “Saudi clubs are definitely still looking for stars, but I wouldn’t want to get people overexcited. At the moment, I don’t have any clear indication that Gabriel Martinelli is necessarily looking to move this late in the window.”

Jacobs went on to stress that both Arsenal and Martinelli appear committed to continuing together this season:

“Of course, it can be a fluid situation, but I don’t think there’s anything major to report at the moment. It’s all quiet on the Martinelli front. We have to be respectful to Martinelli and his own stability now that the season has started.”

A Pivotal Season Ahead

With the likelihood of a Saudi switch fading, Martinelli looks set to focus on getting back to his best at Arsenal. Arteta has already sent a subtle message by not using him from the bench in a Premier League match for the first time in eight months.

Competition for places has never been fiercer. The signing of Eberechi Eze, in particular, could pose a direct threat to Martinelli’s spot on the left wing. The 27-year-old England international is expected to become a regular feature in Arteta’s plans, adding further pressure on the Brazilian to raise his game.

For Martinelli, this season represents a defining moment. If he can recapture the explosive form that lit up the Emirates three years ago, he could still force his way back into Arsenal’s starting XI. But with new signings pushing for places, the 24-year-old must prove he still has a vital role to play in the club’s future.
