Barcelona’s Summer Loan Strategy: Only 3 Players Expected to Leave on Temporary Deals

After already sorting out two major loan cases, FC Barcelona is tightening its squad plans for the upcoming season — and the club doesn’t plan to go overboard with exits. Just three players are expected to leave on loan this summer, matching last year’s approach.

So far, Álex Valle has sealed a move to Como in Italy, and Clément Lenglet’s contract has officially been terminated. That leaves only Oriol Romeu, who’s likely headed back to Girona permanently after a loan spell. Barça hopes to receive a small fee from the deal.

But the spotlight now shifts to four names still in the mix:

Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, Pau Víctor, and surprisingly Marc-André ter Stegen.

Ansu Fati & Ter Stegen — Two Big Names, One Harsh Reality

Things are clear for Ansu Fati: he’s not in new boss Hansi Flick’s plans. A loan to Monaco is practically done, with an option to buy in 2026 for €12M. Offloading his massive €12M net salary is a financial relief for the club.

As for Ter Stegen, the situation is more delicate — and dramatic. Despite being a veteran and a key figure in the past, his role has diminished. With Joan García arriving and Szczęsny renewing, Ter Stegen has slipped down the pecking order. Barça is exploring three options:

Sell for under €10M One-year loan with a purchase clause Contract termination with full payout

Galatasaray is knocking, but the German isn’t convinced. He’s reportedly frustrated with how the club is sidelining him after spending most of last season injured.

Pablo Torre & Pau Víctor — Loan or Sell?

Midfielder Pablo Torre has a few La Liga clubs watching him. But his deal runs out in 2026, so Barça wants him to extend first before sending him on loan. They’re keen on recouping the €5M they paid in 2022, and that won’t be easy unless he shows real progress.

Pau Víctor, on the other hand, is under contract till 2029, but there’s no room for him in the squad. With Ferran Torres as backup for Lewandowski and another winger about to join, Pau is stuck. Barça is now considering a sale around €3M, while keeping a percentage of future rights.

Long-Term Plan: Trim the Squad, Cut the Costs

Barcelona’s leadership doesn’t want a repeat of the past two summers, where up to eight loaned-out players returned with no real role. The goal now is to avoid stacking unwanted contracts and keep the squad lean.

Just like in 2024, Barça’s plan is simple: three smart loans, no more.
