Manchester United secured their first victory of the Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win against Greek side PAOK at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
A double from winger Amad Diallo secured the win for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side, as the Dutchman claimed his second victory in temporary charge after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal last week.
The win takes the Red Devils up to 15th in the league phase, three points off an automatic qualification place, despite remaining unbeaten in the first four outings of the competition.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly does not see Andre Onana as his first-choice goalkeeper. The Portuguese tactician is said to have decided that the 28-year-old has no future at the club and wants the Cameroon star sold.
As per a report in El Nacional, Amorim prefers a goalkeeper who is solid with his shot-stopping and is not prone to mistakes at the back. Onana, however, has shown that is susceptible to errors in his short stay at Old Trafford so far.
Amorim doesn’t see the former Ajax man as the ideal goalkeeper for his system. El Nacional also report that Premier League, Serie A and LaLiga sides are keeping tabs on the situation and could make a move if Onana becomes available.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils goalkeeper recently spoke about adapting to a new system under Amroim. He said (via BBC):
“I did watch the game yesterday. Great victory from them [Sporting], by the way. Different system, but the players, my teammates, we are all pragmatic. I think everyone here is capable to play in each system, so I don’t think this will be any issue for us. We have big players, so they will step up.”
Onana will have his task cut out when the new head coach joins if the aforementioned report holds any truth.
