Former Crystal Palace striker tips Eberechi Eze for surprise Arsenal role vs Liverpool

Eberechi Eze could be set for his Arsenal debut this weekend in one of the Premier League’s standout fixtures, as the Gunners face Liverpool at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made a perfect start to the campaign, beating Manchester United away before dismantling Leeds United at the Emirates. Maintaining that momentum will be a challenge against Liverpool, who are also tipped to be in the title race this season.

However, Arsenal’s preparations are clouded by injury concerns. Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Ødegaard both picked up knocks in the last outing, leaving their involvement in doubt. That situation could open the door for new signing Eze to step straight into the starting XI.

Morrison expects Eze on the left

While many anticipate the former Crystal Palace star taking Ødegaard’s No.10 role, Clinton Morrison believes Arteta could deploy him differently.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s FPL Podcast, the pundit explained:

“That’s what everyone thinks — that Eze will slot in at No.10. But with Saka’s injury, I actually think Mikel Arteta might shift things around. Probably Madueke will move to the right, and Eze will start on the left. So in the next few games, he’ll definitely get opportunities.”

Such a switch would give Arsenal a different look in attack, with Eze cutting inside from the left flank rather than orchestrating play centrally.

Liverpool’s style could suit Eze

If Arteta does use Eze wide, he may find Anfield to be a stage that plays to his strengths. Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have been adventurous going forward but vulnerable defensively, often leaving just Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté exposed when their full-backs push high.

That space on the flanks could be exactly what Eze thrives on. His close control, acceleration and ability to beat players one-on-one might give Arsenal a dangerous outlet in transition.

A debut away at Liverpool is about as testing as it gets, but if Morrison’s prediction comes true, Eze may have the perfect opportunity to announce himself in Arsenal colours.
