Jobe Bellingham Names Arsenal Summer Signing as ‘Really Good’

Arsenal’s hectic summer transfer window is now behind them, with Andrea Berta making an immediate impact in his first months as sporting director by overseeing eight new arrivals in North London. From Kepa Arrizabalaga’s early move to provide cover for David Raya to Piero Hincapié’s late deadline-day switch, the squad has been reshaped to give Mikel Arteta more options across the pitch.

While pressure now shifts to results, one of Arsenal’s headline recruits has caught the eye of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

Gyökeres earns praise from Bellingham

Speaking to the Bundesliga’s official TikTok channel, the 19-year-old was asked to name a five-a-side team made up of players he had faced in his career. Alongside defensive veterans Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva, and Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer, Bellingham opted for Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres to lead the line.

Explaining his choice, the former Birmingham City prospect said:

“For striker, Gyökeres. I played against him in the Championship — he was really good. He was at Coventry, I was at Birmingham.”

Gyökeres, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP this summer in a £63 million deal, has had a mixed start to life at the Emirates but recently impressed for Sweden by setting up a goal in their 2–2 draw with Slovenia. Pundit Jermaine Jenas has also backed the striker to come good in North London as he continues to adapt to Premier League football.

Arsenal’s past interest in Jobe Bellingham

Interestingly, Bellingham himself has previously been on Arsenal’s radar. The Gunners scouted the midfielder last season during his breakthrough year at Sunderland, where he played a key role in their promotion push alongside fellow youngster Chris Rigg.

Now at Borussia Dortmund, the England youth international is seen as a player with the physicality and ball-carrying ability that could one day fit seamlessly into Arteta’s system. Arsenal are expected to keep monitoring his progress in the Bundesliga, with a potential future move not completely ruled out.
