Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF — First-Ever MLS Cup Title

On December 6, 2025, Inter Miami CF clinched their first-ever MLS Cup title by defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3–1 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Lionel Messi was at the heart of it , although he didn’t score, he orchestrated the win with two assists: one in the 71st minute to Rodrigo De Paul and another in stoppage time to Tadeo Allende.

That late Allende goal made it 3–1, sealing the historic trophy for Miami.

Messi: MVP & Legacy Cemented

Messi earned the 2025 MLS Cup MVP award for his decisive contributions.  With this victory, Messi has now added the MLS Cup to his honours — joining previous wins with Inter Miami (like the Supporters’ Shield and Leagues Cup).

According to several sources, this trophy pushes his career total to 47 or even 48 major trophies (club + country), reinforcing his status as the most decorated player in men’s soccer history.

A Big Moment for Inter Miami & MLS

The win marks a monumental milestone for Inter Miami: their first MLS Cup in franchise history.  It’s also symbolic: the club, which began play in 2020, transformed rapidly — from bottom dwellers to champions in just a few years, thanks in large part to Messi’s arrival in 2023.

More broadly, this win highlights how soccer is gaining traction in the U.S. — what once seemed improbable now feels concrete. As one reporter put it, “soccer town now” in South Florida.

What Media & Fans Are Saying

Observers say Messi’s career was already legendary — with a World Cup, countless club trophies — but this win adds a new chapter: dominating MLS and “making that happen.”  Across social media and fan forums, many are calling this “the biggest trophy of his career,” pointing out how far he’s come and how he continues to deliver — even beyond Europe. For example, on a fan thread:

“INTER MIAMI CF ARE YOUR 2025 MLS CHAMPIONS! Powered by star forward Lionel Messi … Messi assisted two goals in today’s match.”
