Manchester United Secure Two Key Signings Ahead of US Tour
Manchester United have successfully reinforced Ruben Amorim’s squad with two significant additions before departing for their pre-season tour in the United States on Tuesday.
Matheus Cunha was one of the earliest arrivals in the summer window, providing an attacking boost. Despite losing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, United were able to land another top attacking target in Bryan Mbeumo — ensuring they’ve addressed key areas before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off.
In the background, the club has generated funds through various sell-on clauses, with Alvaro Carreras, Anthony Elanga, and Maxi Oyedele moving on. Marcus Rashford’s temporary exit on loan has also helped reduce wage costs significantly.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to offload Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho — moves that would not only free up salary space but also create room in the squad for further additions.
United’s revamped financial structure is also playing a crucial role. Following a wave of internal cost-cutting measures, including staff redundancies, more resources have been redirected to first-team investment. Deal structures have been smartly designed to allow maximum flexibility across the transfer market.
Looking ahead, United are still aiming to strengthen the squad, particularly in three key positions: centre-forward, defensive midfield, and goalkeeper.
Last week, they attempted to join the race for Hugo Ekitike, but the Eintracht Frankfurt striker had already committed to Liverpool. They also reached out to Sporting CP for Viktor Gyökeres, though the Swedish forward has made Arsenal his clear preference.
Names like Benjamin Šeško, Ollie Watkins, and Nicolas Jackson remain on the radar of several top clubs, including United. While informal discussions have taken place regarding the trio, no active pursuits are underway due to the current price tags. That could change later in the window if valuations drop.
Additionally, a new deep-lying midfielder is a top priority. And while a new goalkeeper may yet arrive, it wouldn’t necessarily signal the departure of current No.1 André Onana.
