In recent weeks, Carreras has dropped several cryptic hints on social media — including white heart emojis and music lyrics believed to reflect his dissatisfaction with Benfica. Sources say the 21-year-old believed his move to Madrid would be finalized before the tournament began, but complications from Benfica’s side delayed the process.
Initially, both parties seemed to agree on terms, and Madrid was even ready to activate his release clause. However, Benfica reportedly backtracked, choosing not to part ways with their starting left-back mid-competition — even after securing a replacement in Samuel Dahl.
