Arsenal’s search for a top-class striker dragged on far too long last season—and it cost them. The Gunners failed to strengthen their frontline in the summer of 2024 and didn’t get the reinforcement they needed in January either, despite Mikel Arteta’s clear plea for a new No. 9.
That gap ultimately played a part in Arsenal missing out on major honours. But this summer, they’ve taken decisive action by snapping up the prolific Viktor Gyökeres.
However, one exciting young talent who was on Arsenal’s radar has ended up elsewhere in the Premier League—yet he’s still dreaming of playing at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal-Linked Kostoulas Eager for Emirates Debut
Charalampos Kostoulas may only be 18, but he’s already seen as one of Greece’s brightest prospects. After just 35 senior appearances for Olympiacos, his rise has been meteoric. Brighton & Hove Albion paid nearly £30 million to secure his signature this summer, beating several top clubs to his name.
Interestingly, Arsenal were heavily linked with Kostoulas earlier this year. Reports back in February suggested the Gunners had made contact over signing both him and Olympiacos teammate Christos Mouzakitis.
Arsenal’s recruitment team has built a strong reputation for spotting young gems—and clearly, Kostoulas was on their list. But Brighton moved quickly and completed the deal before the North Londoners could make their move.
Now officially a Brighton player, Kostoulas recently appeared on the club’s YouTube channel where he revealed the stadium he’s most excited to play at this season. Without hesitation, he said:
“I think I would say against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.”
A Talent Worth Tracking
While Gyökeres brings immediate firepower, Arsenal must still think about the future. Young striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji departed the club this summer, and Liverpool recently pipped Arsenal to the signing of highly-rated teenager Will Wright.
That’s why keeping tabs on Kostoulas could be smart business long term. The Greek forward is clearly talented, admired by Arsenal’s scouts, and already making waves in England.
If he continues to impress at Brighton, a move to a bigger club could come sooner rather than later—but with Brighton’s knack for developing and selling players at a premium, the Gunners might have to pay a serious fee if they come knocking again.
