Sonia Bompastor talks on advancing Chelsea’s women team

Sonia Bompastor has begun her era at Chelsea on a good note, but recent displays signify some key concerns for the side. Despite winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League match 3-2 against Real Madrid, Bompastor noted that the performance was below what fans and stakeholders expected.

Chelsea showed that they were a never-say-die side because they worked hard and won the match even with the players below par. This independent ability to clinch results under such conditions can only be likened to when the team was being handled by former manager Emma Hayes.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was most impressive, as she constantly made effective use of Real Madrid blind spots. Her speed and dexterity generated lots of chances for a team, proving to be right about the mastery of wing play in Chelsea.

It can be said that cooperation between Wieke Kaptein and Sjoeke Nüsken was productive because both players were responsible for maintaining a defense and for strengthening the attack. This could be important as the games continue throughout the given season.

Chelsea had some weakness in the backline, which let it concede two goals that should have been prevented. In future games, Sonia Bompastor is going to have to close these gaps so that the team can challenge some of the better teams out there.

The intensity of the team can be described as variable and was high and low in turns, especially before the break. Bompastor also called for a more orderly practice to ensure the players keep on being disciplined during games.

These are areas that need to be reinforced as Sonia Bompastor begins to get her footing at Chelsea and in pursuit of Chelsea’s goals for the season. As the fixtures of the English team include Arsenal and FC Twente in their next matches, the team has got to step up to achieve a good performance and to stay on top in domestic and European Union competitions.
