The Mediterranean knights to arrive in Nigeria ahead of Afcon Qualifiers

The Libyan national football team, commonly referred to as the Mediterranean Knights, is planning to land in Nigeria on October 7, 2024, for the build-up to the much anticipated match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. This particular arrival is usually planned to allow the team time to get used to the climate of the country and also the conditions they are most likely going to meet on the field when they play their next match on October 11 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

With the head coach of the Libyan team Nasser Al Hadhiri, assisted by his Tunisian counterpart Akram Al Hammami and the Moroccan Aboubaker Harak, the Libyan team continued to train intensively for this double-header. Their training camp in Tripoli has focused on:

The coaching staff is sparing no effort to remove the weakness of the team, which is unable to beat the Super Eagles effectively. Confirming fitness to enable the players to endure the rigor of the match and the hot weather back home in Nigeria.

So far, the journey of Libya in AFC qualifiers has been quite a daunting one. They are at present occupying the last seat in Group D with only one point gained from the two games played—the Rwandan game, which ended in a draw, and the defeat by the Benin team. The match against Nigeria is important for Libya, who have been trying to record their first win in the qualifying round towards the AFCON 2025 tournament.

The Super Eagles in Group D have earned four points; they hope they will continue to maintain the authority over Libya that they have had in the previous four matches, including the match in Uyo that ended 4-0 in the qualifiers for 2019 AFNAN. The second leg will be played on the 15th of October in Benina; therefore, this two-legged fixture is very important to both teams.

Libya came early and prepared seriously to want a change of fortune in this qualifying group.
