“This is bull!llying” Raphinha leaving the pitch with Argentina players around him.

In the lead-up to the World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Brazil on March 25, 2025, Brazilian winger Raphinha made bold statements, asserting that Brazil would “beat Argentina, no doubt, on and off the pitch,” and expressing his intention to score against the Argentine side.

However, the match at Buenos Aires’ Estadio Monumental unfolded unfavorably for Raphinha and his team. Argentina delivered a commanding performance, defeating Brazil 4-1, with goals from Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister, and Giuliano Simeone.

Throughout the game, Argentine players appeared motivated by Raphinha’s pre-match comments. Defender Nicolás Otamendi, known for his assertive style, was seen confronting Raphinha, advising him to “talk less,” directly referencing the Brazilian’s earlier remarks.

The home crowd also responded, chanting provocations towards Raphinha, further intensifying the atmosphere.

Raphinha’s performance fell short of his pre-match declarations. He struggled to make a significant impact, with his most notable contribution being a second-half free-kick that struck the woodwork.

The match not only secured Argentina’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup but also served as a reminder of the potential repercussions of pre-game bravado, especially in high-stakes encounters between historic rivals.
