Tottenham ready to go all in for £60m Man United star after losing Eberechi Eze to London rivals Arsenal.

Manchester United’s transfer window could take another twist, with reports suggesting that academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo may be placed on the market — sparking interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who enjoyed a bright pre-season, was a surprising omission from Rúben Amorim’s starting lineup in the Premier League opener against Arsenal. Instead, United turned to new signing Manuel Ugarte to replace Casemiro in the second half, leaving Mainoo unused on the bench.

United open to selling Mainoo?

According to Givemesport, United are willing to “sacrifice” Mainoo in order to balance the books after a huge £200m summer spend on attacking reinforcements. The midfielder is reportedly valued at £60 million, with the club also said to be considering the sale of Alejandro Garnacho to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Spurs on alert

Tottenham are monitoring the situation closely, particularly after James Maddison’s long-term injury left them short of creativity in midfield. Manager Thomas Frank has been seeking an attacking option, but Spurs have already missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White (who renewed with Nottingham Forest) and Eberechi Eze, who is set to join Arsenal instead.

Mainoo isn’t a direct replacement for Maddison but has been used by Amorim in advanced roles behind the striker, where his close control and link-up play stood out. That versatility makes him an attractive option for Spurs, who want a young, dynamic midfielder to bolster their squad.

Will United really sell?

Despite the speculation, it remains hard to imagine Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS regime approving a sale to a direct Premier League rival so early in Mainoo’s career. The midfielder has been regarded as one of United’s brightest prospects, and allowing him to leave — particularly to Spurs — would be a bold and controversial decision.

For now, Tottenham are “waiting to take the bait,” but United fans may hope their club resists cashing in on a homegrown gem just as he’s breaking through.
